I ordered my voucher by mail. What happens next?

You will receive your voucher through the mail within the next 2 weeks. It will come from:
Columbia County Tax Collector
135 NE Hernando Ave., Suite 125
Lake City, FL 32055-4006
Once BTT meets its goal of 3,000 vouchers sold, the license plate will be manufactured, and you will be notified by the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) that your license plate is ready. The vehicle owner must match the voucher holder.

I received my voucher. What is the next step?

Right now, just hold onto your voucher. BTT will post an announcement on its website and social media accounts when it reaches the goal of 3,000 vouchers sold. Once the goal is met, the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) will begin production on the license plates, which takes approximately eight weeks. When completed, you will be notified by the FLHSMV that the license plate is ready. You can then redeem your voucher at your local tax collector’s office or license plate agencies. Find your tax collector by following this link: https://floridataxcollectors.com/your-tax-collector/

Can I purchase a voucher before my current license plate is due for renewal, or do I have to wait for my renewal date?

Yes, you can purchase a voucher before your current plate is due for renewal.

Once I receive notice from the FLHSMV that the plate is ready, do I have to wait until my renewal date to go pick it up?

No, you can redeem your voucher at any time once the plates have been produced and distributed to your local tax collector’s office or tag agency.

How do I personalize my new Bonefish & Tarpon Trust license plate?

Personalized license plates can be ordered after the license plates have been manufactured and delivered to the tax collector offices. You can request a personalized license plate when you redeem your voucher.

I have a personalized tag number. Can I transfer this number to my new plate?

Yes, but please be aware that it may take an additional 10-12 weeks to receive a personalized plate.

Are the vouchers transferable?

Vouchers are not transferable and will be mailed to the purchaser’s current address on file with the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles database unless a different shipping address is noted.

Is the voucher cost refundable?

A specialty license plate voucher cannot be transferred, replaced, refunded or exchanged unless the plate fails to meet the minimum pre-sale requirement. At the conclusion of the 24-month pre-sale period, if the minimum sales requirement has not been met, the purchaser of the specialty license plate voucher may apply for a refund using Form HSMV 83363 (https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/83363.pdf).

I own multiple vehicles, can I purchase more than one voucher?

Yes, but you will need to submit a separate order form for each one.

If I purchase a voucher, does this cover the cost of my renewal?

No, the voucher fee only covers the cost of the new specialty plate ($25 which is donated to Bonefish & Tarpon Trust), State of Florida processing fee ($5) and the Service/Branch fee ($3).

You will still need to pay your normal registration fees as outlined by your local tax collector’s office. Please visit https://www.flhsmv.gov/fees/ for information on motor vehicle registration fees.

What happens if the plate fails to meet the presale voucher requirements within the two-year period?

If the plate fails to meet the minimum presale requirements, you may apply the presale voucher toward a different specialty license plate or apply for a refund for the specialty license plate fee only. Form HSMV 83363 is used to apply for a refund (https://www.flhsmv.gov/pdf/forms/83363.pdf).

I would like to purchase the voucher as a gift and want to give it to the recipient personally. Will it be sent to me or the recipient?

All vouchers are sent to the purchasers, so if you wish the voucher to be a surprise, you can personally give it to the recipient.
