Bonefish & Permit Tagging Challenge, Belize River Lodge

The Second Annual Bonefish and Tarpon Trust Bonefish & Permit Tagging Challenge is right around the corner, May 18 to 25, 2013. Anglers participating in this special research event will spend plenty of quality time fishing and will be rewarded with great memories and the knowledge that they have made a difference in conservation, all while staying at one of the Caribbean’s best fishing lodges. There will also be a number of chances to win new gear, donated by top manufacturers.

Contact Denise Schreiber, dschreiber@frontierstravel.com to sign up for this fantastic adventure. The cost of the seven-night / six-day fishing package is $3,668 per person based on double occupancy and a shared guide. Please note that Frontiers and Belize River Lodge will be making a donation on behalf of each trip participant to BTT. Find more information about the organization at www.bonefishtarpontrust.org. We hope that you will join us for an exciting week of fishing and tagging to benefit the Bonefish & Tarpon Trust.

During this trip, which is exclusively offered by Frontiers, anglers will tag as many bonefish and permit as possible with carefully placed spaghetti tags so growth and migrations can be followed. The information collected will be critical in the effort to help conserve and enhance this amazing fishery. In addition, at least one trackable satellite tag will be placed on a big tarpon. Prizes will be awarded on the final evening to those who tag the most / largest bonefish and the most / largest permit.

Mick Kolassa, member of BTT and long-time angler at Belize River Lodge, will host the trip. BTT scientists will be on hand to discuss and teach tagging and fish handling techniques and to answer questions about BTT’s research and conservation efforts. The scientists will also give a presentation on recent scientific findings about the target species. This will be a great opportunity to talk one-on-one with a BTT scientist and get into the whys and hows of bonefish, tarpon and permit biology and fishing.

Fishing opportunities at Belize River Lodge are second-to-none. The lodge was one of the hosts for the BTT television show Buccaneers and Bones, and is one of the top locations in the world for catching IGFA registered Inshore Grand Slams and Super Slams.
