The efforts toward Project Permit in Mexico are paying off, with the first recapture of a tagged permit. The 15 pound permit was tagged on January 31, 2012, by guide Alejandro Velazquez from Palometa Club Lodge, fishing in Ascension Bay. The fish was recaptured a mile from the tagging location on March 25, 2012, by Agustin Briceno. So far, 134 permit have been tagged in Mexico, as well as 308 bonefish. Nassim Joaquin and Rafael Chacon are doing a great job running the Project Permit Mexico program, which is happening due to the participation of Boca Paila Lodge, Pesca Maya Lodge, Palometa Club Lodge, Ascencion Bay Bonefish Club Lodge (ABBC), Casa Viejo Chac Lodge, Casa Blanca Lodge, Playa Blanca Lodge (Espiritu Santo Bay), Paradise Lodge, Costa de Cocos Lodge, and freelance guides on Cozumel Island and local fishing clubs.
We are very grateful to Project Permit Mexico sponsors Costa and Sunbrella.
