Big Fish in the Big Apple

Gamefish need friends these days. And on a softly-lit evening, with the abating spring winds leaving New York Harbor placid and ruminative, friends of saltwater flyfishing’s “big three” species—bonefish, tarpon and permit—gathered at a fundraiser at a long-standing flyfishing club in Manhattan. The genteel club, near the spot where then-General George Washington bade farewell to his officers at the conclusion of the Revolutionary War (“With a heart full of love and gratitude, I now take leave of you”), was the perfect venue.
