Bonefish & Tarpon Trust is dedicated to the conservation and restoration of bonefish, tarpon and permit fisheries through research, stewardship, education and advocacy. Position Description

The Bookkeeper works closely with the Director of Operations and Administration and the President on all activities relating to financial management of the organization and has primary responsibility for accounting, the BTT store and administrative support. The position is based in Coral Gables, Florida, and reports to the Director of Operations.

  • Receipting revenues, including charitable contributions, proceeds from events and other funds receivable; allocating funds to budgeted expenses according to organizational priorities and donor intent; managing and monitoring BTT finances to ensure budget accountability and compliance with financial policies, procedures and requirements; overseeing the year-end closing of the general ledger; providing information as necessary for audit and IRS reporting.
  • Managing accounts payable.
  • Working in tandem with the development and membership department to provide information required in grant applications and stewardship reports as well as to ensure operation and philanthropy are well aligned throughout the course of an operating year.
  • Supporting the Director of Operations and President as needed, business correspondence, word processing, and other duties as assigned.
  • Managing BTT store fulfillment and inventory, special mailings, Cuba license program and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3-5 years related experience.
  • Accounting experience/understanding of accounting practices.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and/or Financial Edge or equivalent preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Google, data processing and database management.
  • Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Strong communications, organization, planning and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a small office environment and work in a collaborative role with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion where appropriate and keep information confidential.
