The Balance, a new film from Orvis about the ongoing water crisis in Florida and the ways it is negatively impacting our fisheries, underscores the urgent need for Everglades restoration.
Please take immediate action to fix Florida’s water crisis by urging your representatives to pass SB 10 and HB 761, which will allow for the purchase of 60,000 acres of land to store, clean and convey water south of Lake Okeechobee to the Everglades. Changes to freshwater flows into estuaries are harming the ecosystem by causing algal blooms, killing seagrasses, oysters, fishes and other organisms, and threatening public health. Tourism and businesses are also being affected, and the state’s $7.6 billion saltwater fishing industry is in jeopardy.
